Privacy Policy

Generation 50 is a non-profit club run by volunteers. We ask for as little as we can, and right now we keep none of it.

Nothing is sent

The application form runs entirely in your browser. Submitting it does not transmit or store your answers anywhere.

No cookies, no tracking

No cookies, no analytics, no advertising scripts. Even our fonts are served from our own site, so no font CDN sees your visit.

No selling, ever

We are a non-profit club run by volunteers. Your information is never sold, rented or shared for advertising.

Who is responsible for your data

Generation 50 is a non-profit, volunteer-run public speaking club for people aged 15 to 25. For the purposes of the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, the club is the data controller for any personal data described on this page.

We are a small volunteer club and are not required to appoint a Data Protection Officer, so questions go directly to our privacy contact, listed at the bottom of this page.

What the application form asks for

The Join Us form asks for your full name, age, country, whether your English is at B1 or above, your email address, an optional Telegram handle, what you hope to get from the club, and how you heard about us.

That is the whole list. We do not ask for your address, your date of birth, payment details, or any special category data such as health, religion or ethnicity, and you should not send those to us.

What happens when you submit it

At the moment, nothing leaves your device. The form is client-side only: your answers live in the page's memory while you fill it in, the success screen is shown locally, and no application is transmitted to us or to any third party. Closing or refreshing the tab discards everything you typed.

This means we currently hold no application data at all. When the form is connected to a real inbox, this policy will be updated to name where the answers go, who reads them and how long they are kept. That update will be published before the change goes live.

How long we keep things

Today the answer is simple: we keep nothing, because nothing reaches us. There is no application database, no spreadsheet and no mailbox behind this form.

Once applications are received for real, our intended retention is the current intake cycle plus twelve months for unsuccessful applications, and for as long as you remain a member plus twelve months after you leave. Those periods will be confirmed on this page at the same time the form goes live.

Cookies, analytics and logs

This site sets no cookies and loads no analytics, advertising or fingerprinting scripts. There is no session tracking, no visitor profiling and no consent banner, because there is nothing to consent to.

Our typefaces are served from this site rather than from a font CDN, specifically so that loading a page does not disclose your IP address to a third party.

Our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs, such as IP addresses and requested URLs, as an ordinary part of serving and protecting the site against abuse. That rests on our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) in keeping the site available and secure. We do not use those logs to identify visitors.

Who else is involved

The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes requests and technical logs on our behalf as a data processor. Vercel operates globally, so serving a page may involve infrastructure outside your country.

The photos and video files shown on the site are stored with Amazon Web Services in the United States, which delivers them to your browser on our behalf as a data processor and so sees your IP address when an image or clip loads. The texts on the site are kept in a database run by Neon, which receives no visitor data. Vercel, Amazon Web Services and Neon are US-based; those transfers rely on the European Commission's adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework together with standard contractual clauses.

Google is involved only through the YouTube testimonial clips described below. Both the still image on the page and the player itself are served by Google. Google is a US-based recipient, and such transfers rely on the European Commission's adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework together with standard contractual clauses.

Nobody else receives your data. We use no email marketing platform, no CRM, no analytics vendor and no advertising network.

Embedded video

Some member testimonials are hosted by us: the clip and its still image come from our own file storage at Amazon Web Services (see above), the player is part of this site, and the clip itself is not requested until you press play.

The remaining testimonials are embedded from YouTube through youtube-nocookie.com. Those are also click-to-load: until you press play, no YouTube script runs and no YouTube cookie is set on your device.

Be aware, though, that for the YouTube clips the still preview image is itself fetched from Google's image servers when the page loads. That request tells Google your IP address and roughly which page you are on, even if you never press play. If you would rather avoid Google entirely, a content blocker will stop the preview from loading and the rest of the site will work normally.

Once you do start a clip, YouTube receives the request and Google's own privacy policy governs that playback.

Members under 18

The club welcomes members from the age of 15, so some of the people using this site are minors. We deliberately keep the form to the minimum needed to assess a membership application, and we never profile or advertise to anyone.

Under Article 8 GDPR, where an online service relies on consent, a child below the age set by their country, which is between 13 and 16 depending on the member state, needs that consent to be given or authorised by a parent or guardian. If you are under 16, please talk to a parent or guardian before sending us your contact details.

A parent or guardian can contact us at any time to ask what we hold about their child, and to have it deleted. We will act on such a request without argument.

Your rights

Where the GDPR applies to you, you have the right to be told what personal data we hold about you and to receive a copy of it (access); to have inaccurate data corrected (rectification); to have it deleted (erasure); to have its use paused while a dispute is resolved (restriction); to receive it in a portable, machine-readable form (portability); and to object to processing that rests on our legitimate interests.

Where our basis is your consent, you also have the right to withdraw that consent at any time, which is as simple as sending us a message.

Exercising any of these is free and requires no particular form of words. Please write to our privacy contact below. Because the site currently stores nothing, a request made today would be answered with confirmation that we hold no data about you. Once applications are received for real, we will respond within one month.

If you believe we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live or work. You are welcome, but never obliged, to raise it with us first.

Automated decisions

We make no decisions about you by automated means, and we do not profile you. Membership applications are read and decided by volunteers.

Changes to this policy

If how we handle your information changes, most likely when the application form starts reaching a real inbox, we will update this page and change the date below before the new behaviour goes live.

Who to contact

Enquiries regarding this policy, requests concerning your personal data, and complaints should be addressed in writing to Len, Privacy Contact for Generation 50, at the address below.

Note for the club: the address above is a placeholder and cannot receive mail, so it is deliberately not a clickable link. GDPR requires a reachable controller, so replace it with a real, monitored address before this page goes live. This note and the link both switch over when you clear the placeholder flag.
